Microsoft Rolling Out New Xbox Console Features, Including Quick Resume Settings to Insiders

Microsoft is launching a suite of new features and tweaks to the Xbox console UI for Xbox Insiders, including new Quick Resume settings. Starting today, those enrolled in the program can test the new features prior to them being available to all Xbox console owners.

As the company announced via an Xbox Wire post, Microsoft is finally allowing players to disable Quick Resume. The feature, which was one of the core additions to the Xbox Series X/S consoles, can now be turned off on a per-game basis. By going into the ‘More options’ menu on a game tile and selecting the  ‘Manage Quick Resume’ option, players can disable the function.

Microsoft states that “Quick Resume is one of the most loved features on Xbox.” However, the feature does have its quirks and doesn’t always work as intended. “We’ve heard that for certain games it doesn’t always deliver the experience you expect.”

Quick Resume allows players to pause their games in a stasis mode when the console is turned off or when switching to another game. However, for online games, Quick Resume does not account for server connectivity. In most cases, players are booted from the server, which requires a restart anyway, rendering Quick Resume useless.

In addition, Microsoft is now allowing players to expand the number of groups you may add. Players can now organize and manage up to 10 groups, a substantial increase from 2. It’s also made easier to pin groups to Home in ‘My Games & Apps’.

Xbox Insiders can also create a custom colour to personalize the console experience. Rather than being limited to preset colour options, there is now a slider with the ability to select the perfect hue to add across the Xbox console’s UI, personalizing you profile.

Finally, the latest console update gives Xbox Insiders the ability to see the five most recently unlocked badges. When viewing their own profile or another player’s, these badges, which reflect milestone moments, will be shown.

There’s currently no word on when these features will roll out widely to all Xbox console owners.
