Google Just Made it Easy to Switch from ChatGPT to Gemini: How to Move Your Data

Gemini switch hero.

Google is introducing new tools to help users bring their data from other AI apps directly into Gemini. The update includes a memory import feature that transfers key preferences, relationships, and personal context, as well as the ability to migrate full chat histories.

To use the memory import, users select the option in their Settings and receive a suggested prompt to paste into their current AI assistant. Once that app generates a summary of the user’s details, the user copies and pastes it back into Gemini. The assistant then saves those facts (such as interests or family details) to its own context for future conversations.

In addition to importing specific facts, users can now upload a ZIP file of their chat history from other AI providers. This allows them to search past conversation threads and continue building on them within Gemini. To reflect these updates, Google is renaming its “past chats” feature to “memory” over the next few weeks.

The company also noted that personal intelligence in Gemini can include relevant insights from Gmail, Photos, and Search history when users grant access. By importing data from other apps, Google aims to make switching assistants faster and more secure without forcing users to start over from scratch.

This is a brilliant idea by Google to lure over users of other AI chatbots like ChatGPT and more.
