Sony to Hike PS5 and PS5 Pro Prices, Now Topping $1,099 in Canada

PlayStation 30th Anniversary Console

Sony is raising the prices of its entire PlayStation 5 hardware lineup globally, citing “continued pressures in the global economic landscape.” The changes, which go into effect on April 2, 2026, will see the cost of consoles jump by as much as $150 in some markets. We know there are RAM and chip shortages because of AI taking over everything.

The price hike affects the standard PlayStation 5, the Digital Edition, the high-end PS5 Pro, and the PlayStation Portal remote player. According to Isabelle Tomatis, Sony’s Vice President of Global Marketing, the decision was a “necessary step to ensure we can continue delivering innovative, high-quality gaming experiences to players worldwide.”

In the United States, the price of a standard PS5 with a disc drive will jump by $100 to $649.99, while the Digital Edition will also see a $100 increase to $599.99. The PS5 Pro, which launched at $699.99, is receiving the steepest hike, jumping $150 to a new retail price of $899.99. Canadian pricing is noted as below:

New PlayStation Pricing (Effective April 2, 2026):

  • PS5 (with disc drive): $649.99 USD / $819.99 CAD
  • PS5 Digital Edition: $599.99 USD / $749.99 CAD
  • PS5 Pro: $899.99 USD / $1,099.99 CAD
  • PlayStation Portal: $249.99 USD / $319.99 CAD

While Sony’s official announcement focused on the U.S., U.K., Europe, and Japan, the company confirmed these increases are part of a global rollout. This marks the second time in less than a year that Sony has increased hardware prices, following a recent price hike in August 2025.

If you’ve been on the fence about picking up a console, you have until the end of the day on April 1 to secure current pricing at local retailers. Who’s ready to pay over $1,100 CAD plus tax for a PS5 Pro?

Amazon.ca still has original pricing right now, so get stock before prices go up next month.
