Reports Suggest Apple Will Not Release a Black iPhone 18 Pro

Apple may not return to its black colourway for iPhone 18 Pro models this year. Recent reports suggest that instead, Apple may introduce a deeper red option for the high-end iPhone models later this year.

Weibo-based leaker Instant Digital took to the internet to claim that Apple will not launch the iPhone 18 Pro in the fan-favourite standard black colourway. Across generations, a tried-and-true colour option has always been black or a space gray variant. That is, until iPhone 17 Pro only launched in Cosmic Orange, Deep Blue, and Silver.

“It seems that the black of the iPhone 18 Pro has been cut again,” the leaker said. “Uncomfortable.”

Earlier this year, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman noted that Apple is testing a “deep red” finish across iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. If correct, this red colour option would be made available across a few other traditional options. Though it seems as though once again, black won’t be one of them.

It’s been rumoured that, amongst the deep red variant, Apple may be developing purple and brown colourways as well. However, Gurman suggests that these are “just variants of the same red idea.”

For customers eager to keep things simple and clean, it sounds as though Apple is staying safe when it comes to colour options for its long-rumoured foldable iPhone. Gurman claims that Apple is planning to “stay away from fun colors” for its foldable iPhone. So, there may not be a Cosmic Orange or deep red option. Instead, it sounds as though Apple will stick to traditional options like white, silver and black.

Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro series is expected to be released later this year, around September.

Please stop using the word colorway incorrectly. It refers to a specific combination of trendy colors, so the phrase “black colorway” is incorrect. Sorry that it bothers me so much but I work in design and people seemed to have latched onto this word recently and started using it instead of simply “color”.
