Public Mobile Revamps 5G Plans to Match Freedom Mobile Pricing
Telus-owned prepaid brand Public Mobile has revamped its 5G plans on Friday afternoon, in what appears to be a move to try to match Freedom Mobile.
Freedom Mobile brought back a $35/80GB global roaming plan, and now Public Mobile is offering the same pricepoint with a plan that’s only available in Canada.
Here are Public Mobile’s plans right now:
- $35/80GB (was 35GB) 5G Canada
- $40/100GB (was 60GB) 5G Canada-US-Mexico
- $45/175GB (was $50/100GB) 5G Canada-US-Mexico
- $22 talk and text 4G
- $25/3GB 4G
- $27/10GB 4G
- $30/20GB 4G
As you can see, data has increased for the $35 plan, while the $40 plan also gets a boost to 100GB Canada-US-Mexico. The $50/100GB plan has become $5 cheaper to $45 and gets 75GB more data. The 4G plans remain unchanged.
Public Mobile does not have an end date on these promo plans, which match Freedom Mobile pricing, but do not match the global roaming portion.
Now, I’m not sure why anyone would sign up for the same $35/80GB plan and have it limited to Canada-only versus a global plan that Freedom Mobile is offering.
Are you going to make any phone plan changes this weekend?

I joined freedom when they launched the $40.00 250gb and 50gb roaming promo after 31 years with Rogers. Rogers added a mysterious $5.00 charge and said they couldn’t do anything. Freedom has worked everywhere and nice to have the ability to roam at will and not worry. Paying 1/2 the price and now I truly have a World phone.
Absolutely! I have been with Freedom for a little over a year now and LOVE their service and their prices! I hope they do continue to invest in their network. Truly a market disruptor in the Canadian mobile space!
After reading this I’ve made the switch to Freedom from Public Mobile lol, the international use is important to me for someone who travels a lot.
