You Can Now Edit Comments on Instagram

Instagram has confirmed that users can now edit their comments after they have been posted. Before today, the only solution was to delete the entire comment and post it again, a process that often felt clunky and disruptive to the flow of conversation.

This long-requested feature brings Instagram in line with other major platforms that have already embraced the “edit” button, providing a much-needed layer of polish to the user experience.

The new feature comes with one specific catch i.e. you have a 15-minute window to make your changes. Once you post a comment, the clock starts ticking. If you spot a mistake or decide to rephrase your thought within that quarter-hour, you can simply tap and hold the comment to bring up the editing menu.

This time limit is likely a strategic move by Meta to prevent people from fundamentally changing the meaning of a conversation hours or days later. By keeping the window short, Instagram ensures that the feature is used for its intended purpose, rather than rewriting history after other users have already interacted with the original text.

Instagram’s move follows a broader industry trend toward giving users more control over their digital footprint. Platforms like X and WhatsApp have recently introduced similar editing capabilities, recognizing that real-time communication is often messy.

To access the new tool, ensure your Instagram app is updated to the latest version on Android or iOS. Once updated, simply navigate to any comment you have made. Long-press on the text, and a menu should appear with the Edit option. Once you save your changes, a small “Edited” label may appear alongside the comment.
