Chipotle Overhauls Rewards App in Canada to Give Away More Free Food
Fast casual restaurant chain Chipotle is making some big changes to its rewards program today, and unlike many other companies that have recently cut back on perks, this update actually adds more ways to get free stuff. The move comes as the chain tries to win over Gen Z diners in Canada and the U.S. who are increasingly choosing where to eat based on which app gives them the best deals.Starting April 13, the new Rewards on Repeat program is rolling out across Canada (excluding Quebec) and the U.S. with several immediate perks for fans of the brand.
New sign-ups will now get a free order of chips and guacamole with their first purchase through the app. The company is also bringing back Freepotle, which means members can expect monthly drops of free food and bonus rewards throughout the year.
Chipotle has lowered the amount of points needed for some rewards and added a new 50% off an entrée option. They are also making birthday rewards more flexible; you can now choose between free guac, queso, chips, or a drink, and you have 30 days to use the coupon.
“Our Rewards platform now drives a significant portion of our sales and connects us with more than 21 million active members,” said Curt Garner, President, Chief Strategy and Technology Officer, in a statement to iPhone in Canada. “With ‘Rewards on Repeat,’ we’re delivering more rewards to all members, more often, and enhancing existing benefits. This relaunch reflects what our guests want most: immediate value, personalization and a seamless experience whether they’re dining in our restaurants or ordering through the app.”
Also, your points will no longer expire as long as you make at least one purchase per year. Previously, you had to buy something every six months to keep your balance active.
The mobile app has been completely redesigned to make it easier to track your points and see which challenges you can complete to earn extra credit. Chipotle is also pushing hard to get more people to scan their app in-store, as most people currently only use the rewards program when ordering digitally.
As of early 2026, there are now 77 Chipotle locations across B.C., Alberta and Ontario, since first arriving in 2008 in downtown Toronto.
