Chrome Debuts AI-Powered Skills Features

Google’s Chrome browser is introducing new AI-powered Skills features to help users learn new skills, manage complex information, and streamline the research process, directly within the browser.

One of the biggest hurdles in online learning is “tab fatigue.” When researching a new topic, whether it is coding, digital photography, or carpentry, users often end up with dozens of open tabs, making it difficult to track progress. Chrome’s new features address this by using AI to automatically group related pages.

The browser can now recognize when you are deep-diving into a specific subject. It will suggest Smart Groups that categorise your open tabs by sub-topic. For instance, if you are learning to bake, Chrome might group your tabs into Recipes, Equipment, and Technique.

To help users digest information faster, Google is expanding its Help Me Read capabilities within Chrome. By utilizing its Gemini AI models, the browser can now generate concise summaries of long-form articles, research papers, or technical documentation.

This is particularly useful for students or professionals who need to scan vast amounts of data to find specific answers. Instead of reading a 5,000-word essay to find one fact, you can ask Chrome to highlight the key takeaways or explain a difficult concept in simpler terms. This “explain like I’m five” functionality is a game-changer for anyone tackling jargon-heavy subjects.

Chrome is also making it easier to practice what you learn. The “Help Me Write” feature is being refined to assist with more specialized tasks. If you are taking an online writing course, the AI can provide real-time feedback on your tone and clarity.
