Google Photos Debuts AI Touch-Up Tools
Google has officially expanded its suite of AI touch-up tools to all Google Photos users. Whether you are on an iPhone or an Android device, features like Magic Eraser and Photo Unblur are now right at your fingertips.
For years, these tools served as a primary selling point for the Google Pixel lineup. Now, the company is bringing these professional-grade capabilities to the masses, allowing anyone with a compatible device to fix their memories with just a few taps.
Using generative AI, the Magic Eraser tool identifies distractions in your images and suggests things you might want to remove. You can also manually circle or brush over an object to make it disappear. The AI then intelligently fills in the gap, blending the textures and lighting so seamlessly that it looks like the distraction was never there in the first place.
Another standout feature now widely available is Photo Unblur. This tool is a lifesaver for those slightly shaky shots or older, sentimental photos that lack clarity. It uses machine learning to reduce blur and visual noise, sharpening the image to bring out fine details. It is particularly effective for portraits where the subject’s face might be a bit soft, ensuring your most important memories stay crisp and clear.
For more complex transformations, Google has introduced Magic Editor to a broader audience. While Magic Eraser removes things, Magic Editor allows you to completely reimagine a photo. You can reposition a person in the frame, resize objects, or even change the colour of the sky from a gloomy grey to a vibrant sunset.
t is important to note that while many tools are now unlimited, Magic Editor comes with a small catch for non-Pixel or non-subscribing users. Those on standard Android and iOS devices will receive 10 Magic Editor “saves” per month. To get unlimited saves, users still need a Pixel device or a Google One premium plan (2TB or higher).
