WhatsApp Plus Premium Subscription Features Leaked

WhatsApp is currently testing a premium subscription tier named “WhatsApp Plus,” with most of the paid features appearing to be largely cosmetic, rather than offering an enhanced communication experience, TechCrunch is reporting.

The move follows a growing trend across social media platforms. Much like Snapchat+ or the premium tiers on Telegram and Instagram, WhatsApp Plus is being designed for power users who want more control over how their app looks and functions.

For the first time in the app’s history, users might soon be able to break away from the classic green aesthetic. The premium subscription is expected to unlock a variety of customisation options, including:

• Custom App Icons: Choose from 14 different icon designs to match your phone’s theme.
• Accent Colours: Change the primary UI colours within the app for a more personal feel.
• Exclusive Themes and Ringtones: Access unique chat backgrounds and notification sounds that are not available in the standard version.

These changes are a significant departure for an app that has historically remained very rigid in its design. For users who spend hours every day in their chats, the ability to tweak the visual experience is a welcome, albeit optional, addition.

Beyond the fresh coat of paint, WhatsApp Plus aims to solve one of the most common complaints from heavy users: chat clutter. Currently, WhatsApp only allows you to pin three conversations to the top of your list. The new premium tier is rumoured to increase this limit significantly, potentially allowing users to pin up to 20 chats.

Additionally, the subscription may include advanced Lists or filter options. While a basic version of chat filters is rolling out to everyone, premium subscribers might get a dedicated Business tab to automatically separate professional queries from personal conversations after 24 hours.

While the core messaging service will remain free, this Plus tier allows Meta to generate revenue from its massive user base without resorting to intrusive banner ads within private chats.
