Gemini April 2026 Update Brings New Notebooks Feature
Google has just released its latest Gemini Drop for April 2026, introducing a suite of features designed to make the AI assistant more integrated, personalized, and capable of handling complex projects.
The standout feature of this update is the introduction of Notebooks. For users who have relied on NotebookLM for deep research, this integration brings that same power directly into the main Gemini app.
Think of a Notebook as a dedicated project space where you can pin specific chats, upload PDFs, and link documents to build a personal knowledge base. Because these Notebooks sync seamlessly with NotebookLM, you can start a research project on your phone and then switch to the full research suite on your desktop.
Google is also rolling out Personal Intelligence, a feature that allows Gemini to connect directly with your Gmail, Google Drive, Photos, and Calendar. Instead of you having to copy-paste information, Gemini can now proactively prepare you for your day.
For instance, if you have a meeting on your calendar, Gemini can read the relevant email threads and documents in the background to provide a one-page briefing before the call starts. To address privacy concerns, Google has made this an opt-in experience, meaning users have full control over which apps are connected and can wipe that data at any time.
In a move clearly aimed at capturing users from rival platforms like ChatGPT and Claude, Google has launched new Switching Tools. Users can now import their full chat histories, preferences, and memories from other AI apps directly into Gemini.
For power users, a native Gemini app for macOS is finally here. Available for macOS 15 and up, the app cuts down on context switching by living right in the dock, offering a faster way to use the assistant alongside your professional tools. Finally, the Android app is receiving a visual makeover, including a new brighter UI with gradient backgrounds.
