Microsoft has announced that its ‘Xbox Mode’ full-screen experience is now rolling out to Windows 11 PCs, with access becoming available to users over time.

Xbox Mode was first revealed in 2025 as a way to provide an Xbox console-like experience on other devices in the Xbox ecosystem. At the time, it was dubbed the Xbox Full Screen Experience and first arrived on the ROG Xbox Ally X. Microsoft then confirmed that Xbox Mode would be rolling out by April “in select markets.”

As the Xbox team confirms, Xbox Mode enable users to browse and launch games using a controller within an optimized interface. Players can switch between Xbox Mode and Windows 11 desktop whenever they choose, so you won’t lose access to the standard desktop experience.

Xbox Mode also provides an aggregated library of installed games from storefronts outside of your Xbox library and Xbox Game Pass. With a unified library, you can find titles from Steam, Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Connect, etc.

To get Xbox Mode on your Windows PC, head over to ‘Settings’ and select ‘Windows Updates’. Ensure that ‘Get the latest updates as soon as they are available’ is toggled on. Once the update is available to you, it can then be installed. There isn’t an exact rollout map shared, so it may just be a waiting game right now until Xbox Mode becomes available to you.

As Xbox Mode has been available on the Xbox Ally X for quite some time, I’ve interacted with it a lot. I personally enjoy it as a close byproduct of the core Xbox console experience. Navigation is made easier than previous UX systems. It’s easy to switch between Xbox Mode and the desktop experience and finding your library is a lot more streamlined. There are still plenty of hiccups. Navigation can be a bit buggy at times.

Alongside the rollout of Xbox Mode on Windows 11 PCs, Microsoft is also releasing a preview of its Auto SR upscaling tech on the ROG Xbox Ally X gaming handheld. This technology provides sharper and smoother gameplay experiences when the device is docked, and you play on a monitor or TV.
