1Password Finally Adds Native iPhone Integration and New Transfer Tool
Toronto-based 1Password just pushed out a round of updates focused on making things smoother for mobile users, mostly around importing your data and saving new accounts on the go.
Moving from one password manager to another has always been kind of a nightmare, usually involving exported files you have to hope nobody intercepts. 1Password is addressing that with a new direct transfer feature for iOS and Android built on something called the Credential Exchange Protocol (CXP). Basically, your passwords and passkeys move straight into 1Password without ever sitting in an unencrypted file.
1Password now works with Apple’s native Passwords APIs, which means the app will actually show up automatically when you’re creating a new account in Safari or other apps, which is a big finally. You can generate and save a strong password right there without bouncing between apps, explained 1Password today. Apple first unveiled its Passwords API back at WWDC 2024.
As for Android users who’ve dealt with autofill randomly breaking will appreciate the new Autofill health check tool, found under the Help menu on the home screen. It monitors your permissions and if something’s off, it gives you a direct link to the exact setting you need to fix rather than making you dig around.
Also, when saving a new login, you can now search for the service first and 1Password will pull in the correct name, website, and icon automatically. Small thing, but it keeps your vault from turning into a mess over time.
Earlier this year, 1Password also raised its prices across the board, with the higher rates having kicked in at the end of March.
