Anthropic Doubles Claude Limits in New SpaceX Deal

Anthropic has announced a major upgrade for its users, effectively doubling the usage limits for its specialized coding tool, Claude Code, as part of a significant new partnership with SpaceX.

The new SpaceX deal aims to provide Anthropic with the massive amount of computing power required to keep up with the growing demand for its artificial intelligence models.

Starting today, Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise users will see their five-hour rate limits for Claude Code jump from five to ten requests. This change is designed to address a common rumour among developers that hitting usage walls during intense programming sessions was a significant barrier to productivity. By doubling these limits, Anthropic is essentially allowing power users to complete a full day’s work without being throttled by the system.

In addition to the limit increases, Anthropic is removing peak-hour restrictions for its Pro and Max subscribers. Previously, users might have experienced slower response times or tighter limits between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. when the servers were most crowded. Now, consistent access will be maintained regardless of the time of day.

The boost in capacity is made possible by a landmark agreement with SpaceX to utilize the Colossus 1 data centre in Memphis, Tennessee. This facility is a powerhouse of tech infrastructure, boasting more than 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs and over 300 megawatts of compute capacity.

Anthropic and SpaceX are exploring the possibility of developing “orbital AI compute capacity.” According to the companies, the energy and cooling requirements for the next generation of AI are beginning to outpace what terrestrial land and power grids can realistically provide.
