Google Rolls Out 5 New AI Search Features

Google has unveiled a series of updates to its AI-powered search features, aiming to bridge the gap between artificial intelligence summaries and the original creators who power the web.

In a blog post published today, Hema Budaraju, Vice President of Product Management for Search, detailed five new enhancements for AI Mode and AI Overviews designed to make it easier for users to discover and engage with relevant websites.

The core of this update is a shift toward making AI Search a starting point for deeper exploration rather than just a final destination. One of the most visible changes is the addition of “end-of-response” suggestions. After reading an AI-generated summary, users will now see a section linking to unique articles or in-depth analyses that offer different angles on the topic.

Recognizing that many people turn to the web for firsthand advice, Google is integrating previews of perspectives from public discussions and social media directly into AI responses. These links will now include more context, such as the creator’s handle or the specific community name.

To help users feel more confident about where they are clicking, Google has also added a hover preview feature for desktop. When you hover over an inline link within an AI response, you will see a quick preview of the website’s name and the page title.

A major hurdle for AI-powered search has been its impact on news publishers. To address this, Google is rolling out a new feature that highlights links from a user’s existing news subscriptions within AI Mode. Early testing showed that people were significantly more likely to click on links when they were clearly labeled as coming from their trusted subscriptions.

Furthermore, Google is increasing the density of links within the summaries themselves. Instead of just listing sources at the bottom, links are now being placed directly next to the relevant text.
