Grok AI Now Available on Apple CarPlay

In a move to expand its reach beyond the Tesla ecosystem, xAI has officially launched a dedicated voice mode for Grok on Apple CarPlay. The update is now rolling out to users, allowing for a fully hands-free experience behind the wheel.

For months, Grok’s presence on CarPlay was limited to a simple icon that greeted users with a “coming soon” message. That waiting period has ended as the assistant is now ready to handle queries during your daily commute.

The new integration utilizes the Voice Control template introduced by Apple in recent iOS updates. This specific framework allows third-party AI developers to hook into the CarPlay interface safely. When you open the app on your vehicle’s dashboard, you are met with a clean, voice-centric interface.

One of the standout features of this release is the natural language processing that Grok is known for. Unlike traditional voice commands that often require rigid phrasing, this update is designed to handle more fluid, human-like dialogue. Drivers can ask about real-time news, deep-dive into specific topics, or simply have a casual conversation to pass the time on long stretches of highway.

The arrival of Grok on CarPlay puts it in direct competition with other heavy hitters. Both ChatGPT and Perplexity made their way onto the platform earlier this spring, following Apple’s decision to open up its automotive interface to conversational AI.

While Siri remains the default for system-level tasks like adjusting volume or sending text messages, these third-party bots are quickly becoming the preferred choice for complex information retrieval.
