Nintendo Switch 2 Will Cost $679.99 in Canada Starting on September 1

Nintendo Switch 2 will soon cost an extra $50, as Nintendo begins raising the price of its hardware starting September 1st. Effective as of that date, the Nintendo Switch 2 will cost $679.99 in Canada.

As part of its latest full-year financial results, Nintendo has announced hardware price increases in Canada, the US, Japan and Europe. Nintendo Switch 2 costs will go up from $629.99 to $679.99 due to “changes in market conditions.”

Nintendo is facing price increases and other hurdles, including ongoing memory shortages and higher shipping and fulfillment costs. As a result, the cost of Nintendo Switch 2 hardware is increasing. Here are the price increases in other major regions:

  • United States: $449.99 to $499.99
  • Europe: €469.99 to €499.99
  • Japan (May 25): ¥49,980 to ¥59,980

Nintendo also confirms that the original Switch lineup and Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions will also increase in Japan. “Nintendo Switch Online is offered as a globally unified service, and pricing will be revised to support appropriate alignment among regions.”

Nintendo now forecasts a decline in sales as the global memory shortage continues to create pain points. The company expects to sell 16.5 million units of the Switch 2 in its fiscal year ending March 31st, 2027. The forecasted projections are a steep decline from the 19.86 million units sold in the fiscal year that just concluded.

Meanwhile, Nintendo Switch 2 software sales reached 48.71 million units, with Mario Kart World being amongst the top-selling games, reaching 14.7 million units. The game had a bit of a boost thanks to bundled-in copies included with the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware. Donkey Kong Bananza reached a respectable 4.52 million units. Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition sold 3.94 million units.

The nostalgia-based drop of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen paid off greatly, with digital sales reaching over 4 million units in its first six weeks.

Nintendo reported ¥2.3 trillion (roughly $20 billion CAD, up 98.6%) in net sales as of the end of its fiscal year. In addition, the company offered insights into its operating profit, which landed at ¥360.1 billion (around $3.1 billion CAD) and ¥909 billion (roughly $7.9 billion CAD).

Nintendo’s year ahead looks pretty strong. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book releases in May. The company just announced Star Fox for Nintendo Switch 2 in June. Splatoon Raiders is set for July, leaving the second half of the year open for more tentpole titles.
