Nintendo Switch 2 Has Now Sold Over 23 Million Units

Nintendo’s Switch 2 continues to gain momentum in the market, with the company announcing that the console has now sold 23.68 million units worldwide since launching in June 2025.

The updated figure was revealed in Nintendo‘s latest financial results for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, where the company also exceeded analyst expectations for both revenue and profit. Nintendo reported quarterly revenue of ¥517.8 billion (approximately $4.46 billion CAD), comfortably ahead of analyst estimates of ¥444.96 billion (roughly $3.84 billion CAD). Net profit reached ¥147.4 billion (around $1.27 billion CAD). This is nearly double analyst expectations of ¥78.3 billion (approximately $675 million CAD).

During the quarter, Nintendo sold 3.82 million Switch 2 consoles. This milestone represents a 34.4 percent year-over-year decline. While that may seem significant at first glance, the comparison comes against the console’s launch window, when demand was at its highest.

Nintendo says the Switch 2 continues to outperform the original Nintendo Switch at the same point in its lifecycle, thanks in part to a steady release schedule of first-party games. The company also noted that hardware sell-through has remained strong in Japan despite recent price increases. The latest sales figures arrive weeks before Nintendo intends to increase Switch 2 sales prices in Canada to $679.99 on September 1.

Software continues to drive the platform’s momentum as well, with 58.17 million units sold. Some key software sales figures include Mario Kart World now sitting at 15.39 million copies sold. Donkey Kong Bananza has sold 4.78 million units. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream has now sold 7.94 million copies, while Pokémon Pokopia has reached 3.68 million copies since launch.

Nintendo reiterated that maintaining a consistent slate of new releases will be key to expanding the Switch 2’s install base over the coming year. Days ago, Nintendo held a Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave live stream, showcasing the title ahead of its September 17th launch.

Beyond console sales, Nintendo’s ecosystem remains healthy. The company reported that its annual playing user base has held steady at roughly 130 million players, highlighting continued engagement across both the Switch and Switch 2.

Looking ahead, Nintendo maintained its full-year forecast of ¥2.05 trillion (roughly $17.65 billion CAD) in net sales for the fiscal year ending March 2027, despite rising component costs. The company says higher memory prices are driven largely by AI demand. This is along with tariffs, which are expected to increase its cost of goods by nearly ¥100 billion (approximately $861 million CAD).

Outside of gaming, Nintendo also celebrated another milestone, revealing that The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has now generated more than $1 billion USD (around $1.36 billion CAD) at the global box office, making it the second highest-grossing video game film of all time.

With more than 23 million Switch 2 consoles already in players’ hands and a packed software roadmap ahead, Nintendo appears well-positioned to carry that momentum through the rest of fiscal 2027.
