You Can Now Watch Spotify Podcasts on TVs
Spotify is expanding its reach far beyond the mobile app by announcing new partnerships and updates designed to bring video podcasts and music videos to smart TVs, gaming consoles, and even car displays.
The music streaming giant has updated its app for smart TVs and gaming consoles to better handle high-definition video playback. This means that if you are watching a video podcast on your phone while commuting, you can walk into your house and immediately toss that video onto your television.
The company is also working with hardware partners to ensure Spotify Video is a native part of the smart home ecosystem. By making video a primary focus on devices like the Apple TV or Amazon Fire Stick, Spotify is betting that users want a lean-back experience where they can watch their favourite creators on a large display instead of a small handheld screen.
To support this surge in video content, Spotify is rolling out better tools for the people actually making the videos. Creators can now access more detailed analytics to see exactly where their viewers are dropping off. There are also new ways for creators to interact with their audience through video polls and Q&A sessions.
This shift is a strategic move to keep users inside the app for longer periods. Audio is great for multitasking, but video requires full attention, which is highly valuable for advertisers. By offering more video options, Spotify can offer more diverse ad formats.
Despite the heavy focus on visuals, the company maintains that the “audio-first” soul of the platform remains. The video feature is designed to be flexible; if you turn off your screen or switch to another app, the audio will continue to play without interruption.
