Spotify 20 Celebrates 2 Decades of Music

Marking its 20th anniversary, Spotify has just launched a new in-app experience called Spotify 20: Your Party of the Year(s), that allows subscribers to look back at two decades of their personal music history.

While Spotify is known for its annual Wrapped event, this new retrospective goes much deeper. It looks at your entire history since the day you joined the platform. For many, this means revisiting songs and artists from the mid-2000s that have long been forgotten in their libraries.

The mobile-only experience surfaces data points that Spotify has never shared before in this format. When you open the feature, you are greeted with the exact date you joined Spotify. From there, it reveals your very first streamed song and the total number of unique tracks you have played over the years.

One of the most exciting additions is the All-Time Top Songs playlist. This is a custom-built collection of your 120 most-played tracks across your entire history. Unlike a standard playlist, this one actually shows you the specific play counts for each song, giving you a clear look at your absolute favourites.

The retrospective also highlights your all-time most-streamed artist. Given the scale of the data, the results have been a surprise for many users who found that their current tastes differ wildly from their most-played legends of the last decade.

To put these personal stats into perspective, Spotify also shared some massive global milestones. For example, Taylor Swift currently holds the title of the most-streamed artist in the platform’s history. Other top names include Bad Bunny, Drake, and The Weeknd. The song “Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd has officially become the most-streamed track of all time.

The feature is currently rolling out to 144 markets in 16 languages. To find yours, simply open the Spotify mobile app and search for “Spotify 20” or “Party of the Year(s).” You can also visit spotify.com/20 on your mobile device to jump straight into the experience.
