Amazon Launches Podcasts for Alexa+ Users
Amazon has just launched a new feature called Alexa Podcasts for its premium Alexa+ service. The AI-backed upgrade allows users to generate full, conversational audio episodes on virtually any subject on demand.
To start the process, a user simply tells Alexa+ about a topic they want to explore. From there, the assistant gathers relevant data, presents a brief outline of the proposed talking points, and allows the user to adjust the length, tone, and direction of the episode.
Once the layout is confirmed, Alexa+ generates a complete audio broadcast featuring two AI co-hosts speaking in a natural back-and-forth style.
To ensure accuracy and combat the common generative AI issue of hallucination, Amazon is grounding the tool in verified data. The system pulls information from a network of over 200 content partners and news organizations, including Reuters, the Associated Press, The Washington Post, Time, Forbes, and numerous local American newspapers.
The underlying concept shares similarities with Google’s NotebookLM, which gained popularity for its ability to generate synthetic podcast discussions. However, Amazon’s implementation changes the workflow. While Google’s platform requires users to manually source and upload files like PDFs or text documents first, Alexa Podcasts acts as an autonomous research agent.
Amazon suggests users can leverage the feature to catch up on trending entertainment news, listen to family-friendly science overviews during dinner, or generate deep dives into niche hobbies like sourdough baking or drone photography.
The new feature is currently rolling out to Alexa+ subscribers in the United States. Finished episodes trigger a notification on Echo Show devices and are automatically saved within the Music and More section of the Alexa app for mobile listening.
