Apple Testing AI Writing Tools, New Shortcuts App for iOS 27

A new report from Bloomberg is claiming that the upcoming iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 will bring an advanced AI grammar checker, automated shortcut generation, and custom wallpapers.

According to people familiar with the matter, the updates are scheduled to be previewed during Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) keynote on June 8. One of the most notable changes targets the platform’s native text processing capabilities.

While Apple already offers basic text summary and proofreading options, iOS 27 will introduce a dedicated, full-fledged grammar checker designed to rival popular third-party tools like Grammarly.

The new writing interface will reportedly manifest as a translucent panel that slides up from the bottom of the display when text is highlighted. The system will show a side-by-side comparison of the user’s original phrasing alongside suggested structural and grammatical corrections. Users can tap through the changes to accept them individually, apply all the edits at once, or ignore the assistant completely.

Apple is also testing a “Write With Siri” toggle placed right above the digital keyboard, alongside a “Help Me Write” prompt that triggers when the voice assistant is activated while typing inside a text field.

Beyond text editing, the Shortcuts app is set to receive its biggest user experience shift since its inception. Currently, building automated routines requires a tedious manual setup of linking app commands together, keeping the feature out of reach for casual users. In iOS 27, Apple plans to implement a natural language layer, allowing users to build complex automations simply by describing what they want to achieve.

The standard wallpaper picker interface is also gaining a direct integration with Apple’s Image Playground engine. Instead of searching online for a background or picking from static pre-made themes, users will be able to type out concepts to generate unique, custom-made imagery for their device backgrounds.

Internal testing suggests Apple is fine-tuning separate, more lifelike generation models for wallpapers to ensure they look distinct from standard custom emojis.
