iOS 27 Leak: Siri Is Moving to the Dynamic Island and Camera Gets Pro Controls
Apple is planning its most ambitious iPhone software update in years, and according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, we’ll get the full picture at WWDC on June 8.
The two headliners are a completely rebuilt Camera app and a ground-up rethink of Siri, but the changes run deeper than that across iOS 27.
Camera Gets Pro Controls for Everyone
The Camera app is getting a customizable control system that lets you decide what shows up on screen and where. The defaults stay the same when you open it, flash, night mode, the usual, but you can now swap in a tray of more advanced tools that slides up from the bottom of the screen. Basically, manual exposure, depth-of-field controls, and resolution toggles, the kind of stuff that used to require a third-party app.
There’s also a new Siri mode inside the Camera app that ties into Visual Intelligence, so you can point your camera at a plant or a sign in another language and get an answer in real time.
Siri Is Moving Into the Dynamic Island
Gurman’s sources describe the new Siri as an always-on agent that can take action across different apps using your personal data. It lives in the Dynamic Island now, with a pill-shaped animation that appears when activated. Swipe down on the results and you get a chatbot view that looks a lot like a text message thread, similar to how ChatGPT’s interface works.
It’s the biggest change to Siri since it launched, which isn’t saying nothing given how much catching up it has had to do.
Everything Else
Apple is also tweaking its Liquid Glass design language throughout the OS. Safari is getting a new start page with four tabs for quicker access to bookmarks and history. The Weather app is getting a redesigned conditions panel that surfaces rain and wind data without an extra tap. A new ‘Search or Ask’ bar will appear when you swipe down from the top centre of the screen, replacing the current search setup.
Music, Podcasts, and News are all getting updated tab bars with search better integrated. Image Playground is getting more realistic AI models, plus a text-based editing tool that lets you describe a change you want to make to an AI-generated image rather than regenerating from scratch.
At this point, anything will be better than what the existing state of Siri has become. We need some real smarts for Siri and we hope Apple will take full advantage of what Google’s Gemini can do.
