Apple Sports Expands to 90 New Countries
Apple has announced a massive global expansion of its dedicated Apple Sports app, making the free iPhone utility available in more than 90 additional countries and regions. This push expands the app’s total footprint to over 170 markets worldwide.
The rollout strategically positions the software as a primary digital companion ahead of the highly anticipated FIFA World Cup 2026, which is scheduled to kick off this June.
Among the newly added territories are prominent sporting markets across the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East, and Africa, including Australia, New Zealand, Japan, India, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and South South Africa.
Prior to this release, the app’s availability was limited to North America, South America, and Europe following smaller regional updates earlier this year.
To celebrate the global expansion, Apple is introducing a suite of features tailored specifically for the World Cup. Fans can now explore the full tournament groupings and completely customise their scoreboards. By following either the overall tournament or specific national teams, users can ensure they receive critical, up-to-the-minute updates as soon as the matches begin.
The Apple Sports experience relies heavily on iOS core infrastructure to deliver updates. Following a favorite team or match enables the Live Activities feature, which pushes real-time scoreboards directly to the iPhone Lock Screen and the Apple Watch.
Users can also install dedicated sports widgets on their iPhone, iPad, and MacBook Home Screens to track tournament dynamics without opening the application.
Despite the inclusion of cross-platform desktop and tablet widgets, Apple confirmed that the core Apple Sports application remains strictly an iPhone exclusive for the time being. The free update is now live and available to download on the App Store in all supported global markets.
