Apple TV to Broadcast MLS Match Shot on iPhone 17 Pro

Apple TV will make history on May 23 by broadcasting the LA Galaxy vs Houston Dynamo Major League Soccer (MLS) match shot using only iPhone 17 Pro cameras positioned around the stadium.

The game will be streamed live from Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, at 7:30 p.m. Pacific Time. This weekend event marks the final stretch of regular MLS play before the league takes a temporary break for the FIFA World Cup 2026 in North America.

Instead of deploying traditional, bulky television broadcast gear, the production crew will place 15 iPhone 17 Pro devices all around the stadium. The smartphones will record every detail of the event. Viewers can expect to see live video covering team warmups on the pitch, player introductions, wide shots of the stadium crowd, and unique angles taken from directly inside the goal nets.

The small size of the smartphone gives the production crew a huge advantage. Traditional cameras cannot easily squeeze into tight spaces, but the compact phone can be stationed in creative locations to capture angles that were previously impossible to reach. Apple hopes these fresh vantage points will bring fans much closer to the physical action on the pitch.

Apple first introduced the smartphone into a live professional sports environment in September 2025 during a Friday Night Baseball game between the Boston Red Sox and the Detroit Tigers. On that night, the production crew used the iPhone 17 Pro to record select cinematic stadium scenes and quick highlight moments rather than the entire game.

Following positive feedback from sports fans, Apple expanded the test to other major events, including the 2025 MLS Cup, before ultimately deciding to let the phone run the entire show this weekend.
