Major League Soccer returns this Saturday, February 21, for its 31st season, and Canadian fans will notice a significant change in how they watch (Apple announced last fall about the change).

Starting this year, the standalone MLS Season Pass has been retired, with all matches now included directly in a standard Apple TV subscription at no extra cost. MLS Season ticket holders also get a free annual Apple TV subscription.

Opening weekend features all 30 teams, but the spotlight is on a massive Saturday night doubleheader. World Cup winner Lionel Messi and Inter Miami CF travel to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum to face Son Heung-min and LAFC.

For Canadian viewers, Vancouver Whitecaps FC also start their campaign Saturday at BC Place against Real Salt Lake, marking Thomas Müller’s first full season in Canada.

“All eyes are on North America this year as the MLS season kicks off this week and the World Cup approaches,” said Thomas Müller, Vancouver Whitecaps FC attacking midfielder and 2014 FIFA World Cup champion, in a statement. “After joining Whitecaps FC last August, I’m excited to begin my first full season in MLS, help the team build on what we started, and give fans everywhere the chance to follow our journey on Apple TV. It’s a great opportunity for our club and the league to shine in such an important year for the sport.”

The 2026 season is built around a summer break from May 25 to July 16 to accommodate the FIFA World Cup (which is being hosted in North America and BC Place is a venue). Because of the tournament, several teams are dealing with scheduling quirks; CF Montréal will play its first six matches on the road while upgrades and weather preparations continue at home.

Apple has added new features for the season, including a Saturday Showdown broadcast and integrated scores via the Apple Sports app.

In Canada, an Apple TV subscription costs $14.99 per month with free 7-day trial, which now covers every regular-season game, the Leagues Cup, and the MLS Cup Playoffs with no blackouts.
