App Store Ecosystem Hits Record $1.4 Trillion
An independent study carried out Analysis Group economists has revealed that Apple’s App Store ecosystem reached a massive milestone in 2025, facilitating $1.4 trillion in total developer billings and sales.
The report comes just a week before Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), where the company is expected to lean even further into artificial intelligence.
One of the most striking findings in the report is the explosive growth of apps featuring consumer-facing AI. While many industries are still debating the utility of artificial intelligence, app developers are already reaping the rewards.
According to the study, apps that integrated AI capabilities saw billings growth four times higher than those without them. In fact, 40 of the top 100 apps on the storefront now include some form of AI, ranging from photo editing and fashion tools to advanced translation services. This shift suggests that users are quickly adopting AI as a standard part of their mobile experience.
A common point of discussion regarding the App Store is the commission Apple takes from sales. However, the 2025 data shows that the vast majority of the $1.4 trillion never passes through Apple’s commission structure.
The study confirms that for more than 90% of these transactions, developers paid no commission to Apple. This is because the bulk of the ecosystem’s value comes from sales of physical goods and services, such as grocery deliveries, travel bookings, and retail purchases.
Geographically, China led the world with $562 billion in billings and sales, followed by the United States at $453 billion. Europe also saw significant momentum, with its share reaching $184 billion.
