Apple announced some big updates for developers on Monday, dropping new AI frameworks and a major overhaul to its development environment, Xcode. The tech giant is leaning heavily agentic coding, introducing deep artificial intelligence tools designed to automate and streamline how apps get built.

A major part of the announcement revolves around Xcode 27, which now integrates top-tier AI models directly into the developer workflow. Instead of just suggesting code snippets, Xcode now supports advanced coding agents from Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI. These agents can handle complex tasks like writing tests, interactive planning, and testing out ideas autonomously inside Apple’s new Device Hub.

Apple is also updating its own foundation models, which it built alongside Google. To make these tools accessible to smaller creators, Apple is offering free access to its next-gen models on Private Cloud Compute for developers in the App Store Small Business Program who have fewer than 2 million downloads. For those who prefer to run everything locally, a new framework called Core AI lets developers deploy full-scale large language models directly on Apple silicon to tap into the device’s Neural Engine.

“Developers are at the heart of the Apple ecosystem, and our goal is to provide them with the best possible tools and technologies to build the future,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations, in a statement on Monday. “With new intelligence frameworks and agentic coding in Xcode 27, developers have the tools they need to focus on what they do best: bringing their incredible ideas to life.”

Beyond AI, Apple showcased a refined visual look called Liquid Glass, which features a new transparency slider in the system settings so users can personalize their interface. The company also rolled out Swift 6.4 and major updates for game developers, including a new Steam Asset Converter to bring PC games over to Apple devices, and Game Porting Toolkit 4, which helps AI agents optimize games for Metal.

Developer betas for iOS 27, macOS 27, and Xcode 27 are available now.
