Apple highlighted a series of performance improvements coming in iOS 27, saying the update focuses on making devices feel faster, more responsive and less frustrating to use, at its WWDC keynote.

Some of the key upgrades include:

  • Apps on iPhone and iPad launch up to 30% faster, including third-party apps, thanks to new preloading techniques.
  • New photos appear in the Photos library up to 70% faster after they’re taken.
  • AirDrop transfers are up to 80% faster when sharing photos, videos and files.
  • File browsing and transfers between an iPad and external storage are up to five times faster, bringing performance closer to Finder on Mac.

Apple also announced that iOS 27 will support the same devices as iOS 26, including the iPhone 11, which is great news. The company said it has brought an improved CPU scheduler to older models, helping them feel more responsive during demanding workloads.

The update also includes smarter network switching between Wi-Fi and cellular connections. Apple says iPhones will better recognize when a Wi-Fi network is weak or no longer useful and switch connections more intelligently without requiring manual intervention.

In Messages, users on slower connections will see a new send-status indicator that shows which messages have been delivered and which are still pending, making conversations easier to follow when sharing large files.

Apple ended the segment by teasing improvements to search across the operating system, saying it has focused on making it easier to find content when users know something exists but can’t immediately locate it.
