iOS 27 Has a Clever New Feature for When You Call Someone on Their Birthday
Apple is adding a handy little feature in iOS 27 that could save you from forgetting a friend’s birthday when you call them on their actual big day.
As shared by designer Andreas Storm, who shared the find on X, the new feature displays a contact’s birthday directly on the calling screen the moment you dial them. A banner appears at the top of the call screen showing “Birthday • Found in Contacts” along with the current date, so you know right away before they even pick up.
Below, a screenshot of the birthday banner will show fireworks, a visual that lets you know you should be saying happy birthday.
The reminder only shows up on the actual day of someone’s birthday, so it’s not something that’s constantly in your face. It’s more of a quiet heads-up for those moments when you’re calling someone for a totally unrelated reason and have no idea it’s their special day. That way you can pivot and wish them a happy birthday the second they answer. There’s nothing worse than getting a call from a friend or family member on your birthday–and they forget. This eliminates that. But of course you need to have their birthdays added to contacts for it to work. If only Apple could also pull data from your calendar too?
This is a small change, but a smart one that is pretty useful. The feature is currently live in the early iOS 27 beta for developers and public testers. Now, you can feel like less of a deadbeat if you are the one that tends to always forget birthdays (and you actually still talk to people on the phone).
