Tesla’s New Model Y L Seats Six, But Canadians Will Have to Wait
Tesla has finally launched its Model Y Long Wheelbase, but for now it’s only available in the US and Puerto Rico. The good news for Canadians is that it should eventually make its way up here, so it’s worth keeping an eye on. This Model Y L was previously only available in Asia Pacific markets after first debuting in China in August 2025.
This is the three-row, six-seat version of Tesla’s best-selling SUV that folks have been waiting on, basically a stretched version. It’s built to be roomy, with enough headroom and legroom to keep all six passengers comfortable (although the back two seats are probably better for kids and shorter people).
The Model Y L can go 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds with an estimated 325 miles (523 km) of range. Tesla says the improved airflow bumps up efficiency and helps stretch that range a bit further.
The front row gets heated and ventilated seats with a powered thigh cushion. The second row has heated and ventilated captain’s chairs with powered armrests and one-touch folding. And the third row gets heated seats, power recline, one-touch fold and child seat anchors.
Cargo space comes in at 89 cubic feet and with all six seats full, the trunk still fits a 28-inch and a 20-inch suitcase, and the frunk holds another 20-inch bag. Tesla says bigger stuff like snowboards and bikes can fit in the cabin as well.
As for safety, there are seat belts and side airbags optimized for the second and third rows, upgraded acoustic glass and suspension to cut down road noise, adaptive damping for a smoother ride, and staggered tires for better grip. There’s a larger tailgate for better rear visibility and bigger windows all around.
Inside, there’s a 16-inch touchscreen up front and an 8-inch screen for the second row, plus a 19-speaker Tesla Audio setup. The wireless charging pads have been bumped up to 50W with active cooling, and there are charging ports for every seat.
Colour choices include a choice of Stealth Grey, Pearl White Multi-Coat, Marine Blue, Diamond Black, Ultra Red and Cosmic Silver, part of this limited-edition Launch version.
The Model Y L Premium AWD starts at $61,990 US (about $87,890 CAD after exchange rates). That includes 12 months of FSD, then it’s $99 US/month after. You also can pick from 19-inch Machina 2.0 or 20-inch Uberhelix wheels, while a tow hitch, and your choice of Zen Grey or all-black interior is included at no extra charge. It ships with FSD Supervised and the integrated Grok AI assistant.
This limited-edition Launch Series version adds interior and exterior badging, 12 months of Full Self-Driving (Supervised), Supercharging and Premium Connectivity. On top of that you get door trim puddle lighting, a suede dashboard wing, floor mats and sill plates.
No word yet on Canadian pricing or a firm launch date, but given Tesla’s track record of bringing new variants north eventually to match the US, Canadian buyers should get their shot down the road. For now, this Model Y L is being made at Giga Texas, and with the tariff war ongoing, we won’t be seeing these here in Canada. The only other option would be for Model Y L units from Giga Shanghai to land in Canada at some point.
