Freedom Mobile Rolls Out Calgary Stampede Deals and VR Experience
Freedom Mobile is marking this year’s Calgary Stampede with both massive plan discounts and a unique virtual reality experience for attendees.
The carrier is offering exclusive “Stampede Offers” that are available to customers for 20 months. These limited-time plans significantly boost data buckets compared to their standard website pricing:
- $30/25GB + 1GB Roam Beyond
- $35/175GB + 5GB Roam Beyond
- $40/250GB + 10GB Roam Beyond
These Stampede-exclusive offers provide a decent jump in value compared to what is currently listed on the Freedom Mobile website (plans recently were degraded). The $35 plan currently offers 175GB of data instead of the standard 10GB, and 5GB of Roam Beyond instead of 1GB. Similarly, the $40 plan offers 250GB of data instead of 70GB, and 10GB of Roam Beyond instead of 5GB. Customers who sign up for these promotional plans will also receive a free Belkin power bank (while quantities last).
Beyond the hardware and plan upgrades, Freedom Mobile is hosting an immersive VR attraction on the Stampede Midway (it’s a sponsor of the show) from July 4–13. The “Worry-Free Escape” VR experience features 360-degree drone footage of remote Canadian landscapes, including mountain ranges, forests, and aerial views of the Calgary Stampede’s own private ranch.
“This isn’t your typical VR experience,” said Pierre Karl Péladeau, President and CEO of Freedom Mobile, in a statement to iPhone in Canada earlier this month. “We’ve captured places so remote that they’re virtually inaccessible to most Canadians. The Freedom Mobile Worry-Free Escape embodies our brand promise of worry-free wireless by giving Stampede guests a chance to experience true freedom while gliding above some of Canada’s most and breathtaking landscapes.”
The attraction is housed in a custom shipping container designed to evoke a sense of lightness, featuring transparent bubble chairs to match the company’s brand theme.
