Asus to Now Sell OLED ROG Xbox Ally X20 as Standalone Product

Asus has confirmed its plans to sell the upcoming OLED ROG Xbox Ally X20 handheld as a standalone product. Rather than an assumedly costly bundle, paired with the ROG XREAL R1 glasses, eager players will be able to purchase the upgraded ROG Xbox Ally X gaming handheld on its own this year.
While speaking with The Verge, a company spokesperson said, “We are actively discussing the release schedule for a standalone version of the new Ally. Please stay tuned for upcoming announcements.” No information was given on the handheld’s release date or its pricing, whether bundled or not bundled.
The ROG Xbox Ally X20 was first revealed at Computex 2026, earlier this year. Announced as a bundle, the ROG Xbox Ally X20 is designed to finally include an OLED display and TMR joysticks. At the time of the announcement, Asus planned to ship its new handheld with a pair of ROG XREAL R1 AR glasses. While it sounds as though a bundle is still in the works, these two products may also ship separately to consumers.
The ROG Xbox Ally X20 is a particularly exciting project for an active user of the ROG Xbox Ally X. The inclusion of a 7.4-inch ROG Nebula HDR OLED display is very tantalizing, as I personally prefer OLED versus the IPS display used on the current handheld. The display also offers 120Hz with FreeSync Premium Pro, 1,400-nit HDR, VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1000, and Dolby Vision. This is an upgrade I’ve been waiting to see from Asus for a while.
The other standout upgrade is the transition to using TMR joysticks. TMR sticks use a contactless magnetic sensor system, making them much less susceptible to wear and tear over time. Asus is also improving the face buttons and D-Pad on the handheld as well. Asus is also swapping out the ‘Library’ button on the handheld for a new ‘Action’ button, enabling users to easily take screenshots or record video clips.
ROG XREAL R1 are positioned as a pair of gaming AR glasses. They can project a 171-inch virtual screen at a distance of 4 meters. While worn, the glasses cover 95 percent of a user’s peripheral vision, support 240Hz gaming, and offer an impressive 0.01ms response time.
In Canada, the ROG Xbox Ally X is available for $1,499. Therefore, it’s likely that the ROG Xbox Ally X20 will launch well above that price.
