The military sci-fi thriller War Machine starring Alan Ritchson has taken the top spot as Netflix’s most-watched movie of 2026 so far. Viewing data released by Netflix on Tuesday reveals that subscribers logged 97 billion hours of watch time across the platform’s entire catalogue in the first six months of the year.
The winning film centres on a combat engineer going through elite US Army Ranger selection who must face off against a deadly killing machine during training. The strong viewing performance has already prompted Netflix to greenlight a sequel. Ritchson action films are always fun to watch as long as you don’t have super high expectations.
Crime thrillers and animated projects dominated the upper ranks of the mid-year viewership report, with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s heist movie The Rip (a horrible movie) taking second spot, followed by the animated feature Swapped in third.
