Apple is getting ready to refresh nearly every Mac it sells over the next couple of years, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The push comes as Mac sales climb for a third straight year, helped by a growing crowd of users who lean on the machines for demanding AI work.
The updates are going to start this fall, as Gurman reports Apple has finished development on a refreshed entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro (code-named J804) built around the new M6 chip, along with the first new iMacs in two years (J833 and J834).
The bigger change is the high-end MacBook, as Apple is working on redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch models (K114 and K116) with OLED touchscreens, which are on track for late 2026 or early 2027. Those laptops will run M5 Pro and M5 Max chips rather than M6 versions, since Apple is fast-tracking its M7 chips instead. M7 Pro and Max updates are penciled in for late 2027 or early 2028.
The MacBook Air is getting attention too, with refreshed 13-inch and 15-inch models (J913 and J915) expected by early next year, with an OLED version possibly arriving as early as 2028.
Apple is also planning a newly designed base 14-inch MacBook Pro (K104) with a standard M7 chip for release next year, and a budget MacBook Neo is in internal testing with an A19 Pro chip and more memory.
On the desktop side, refreshed Mac mini models are being tested with M5 Pro and M6 chips, while new Mac Studio models are in the works with M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips. Exact timing on those two is still up in the air, with memory-chip supply shortages holding things back.
