$269 LEGO Donkey Kong Arcade Set Officially Launching August 1

LEGO and Nintendo have finally formally announced that the new Donkey Kong Arcade set is launching in Canada and other global markets on August 1st.

The 1,371-piece set is a stylish and beautiful recreation of the classic Donkey Kong arcade cabinet. The Donkey Kong Arcade set features moving components that recreate the original arcade game, where Jumpman must jump over a series of barrels in his attempt to reach Donkey Kong and save Lady. Although the set isn’t as interactive as the real game, it still includes many interactive components. For instance, there is a barrel-release lever on the cabinet alongside a joystick and Jump button.

Once the set is built, you can pull the lever to release a barrel (there are 21 in total). The barrel is then sent down the platforms, where you can use the joystick to move Jumpman, pressing the button to make him jump over the barrel. The set also includes a really novel mechanism that operates behind the set that moves the barrels back to the top.

The Donkey Kong Arcade set also includes some really cool, stylish nods. For instance, the Donkey Kong logo can be built and placed on the top of the cabinet. Four character images, displaying Donkey Kong, Lady, and Jumpman, can be placed on all corners of the set.

The Donkey Kong arcade game first debuted in 1981 and has since become a seminal piece of gaming history. It helped spawn the Mario franchise we all know and love. Jumpman himself is an early version of Mario, who later became a major character. Lady is a very early version of the character we now know as Pauline.

LEGO’s Donkey Kong Arcade set is available to preorder now in Canada for $269. The company states that shipments begin August 1st, 2026.
