Apple has just rolled out its fifth developer beta for iOS 27, and hidden system files inside the update have revealed 6 unreleased iPhone models, providing the clearest look yet at the company’s iPhone 18 roadmap (via MacWorld).
The unexpected leak includes the complete internal codename list for the upcoming phone generation:
These internal names were uncovered inside system files linked directly to battery drivers and Apple’s software features for power management. While software leaks happen from time to time, this marks the first instance where an entire upcoming family of devices appeared simultaneously inside internal system code.
Earlier test versions of iOS 27 already contained code designed to support foldable displays and dual-battery setups. Neither feature exists on any current model. The presence of new power management files strongly suggests that Apple is fine-tuning the operating system to handle custom hardware requirements, particularly for its first foldable screen.
Beyond confirming the existence of 6 new devices, the leak points to a major shakeup in how Apple plans to release its products. In previous years, Apple typically announced its main flagship family all at once during a single September event. However, current rumours suggest that the company will split its product cycle into separate phases starting this year.
This coming autumn, Apple plans to focus almost exclusively on its most expensive models. Customers can expect the high-end iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max to launch alongside the long-rumoured foldable device, internally named the iPhone Ultra.
Meanwhile, anyone holding out for the entry-level options will have to wait longer. Both the standard iPhone 18 and the budget-friendly iPhone 18e are not scheduled to arrive until early 2027. A second generation of the slim iPhone Air is also currently in development, though it will not be ready for a autumn launch either.
