Google Adds New Personalization Features for Search, Discover, and News
Google is rolling out new updates to give users more control over what they see in Search, Discover, and Google News.
A new interactive ‘Preferred Sources’ button allows publishers to embed a option directly on their website pages. When readers tap the button, the publication is saved as a preferred source on Google, automatically boosting its presence in Top Stories, AI Overviews, and AI Mode.
Over 600,000 unique sources have already been selected by users. It’s never been more challenging to be an independent publisher—click here to add iPhone in Canada as a source to help support us.
Google said it’s also updating the Discover feed in the Google app to let users fine tune their topics using natural language. Readers can tap the three dot menu on any feed item and type specific instructions about what they want to see more or less of. The feed updates instantly and remembers these preferences for future browsing.
There’s also an update for Android users accessing the Google News app. They can now customize daily audio briefings, which means listeners can pick preferred topics, access clear source attribution, and tap direct links to full stories.
