Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 are getting Audio Intelligence, including Live Rewind to transcribe the previous 15 seconds of speech and Siri Recap to summarize conversations. Using the watches’ microphones, Apple silicon and AI models, the features join redesigned health sensors on both models.
Double-pressing the Digital Crown activates Live Rewind, letting users recover a missed detail, ask Siri about the transcript or save it in the new Siri app. Siri Recap uses ambient listening to generate conversation titles, summaries and key points, for situations such as meetings or parent-teacher conferences.
Users control when Recap takes notes, choosing Always, setting a schedule or switching it on and off through Control Center. Apple says these features neither create nor store audio recordings, raw processing audio is inaccessible even to Apple, and speakers are not identified or attributed. Saved transcripts and recaps sync through iCloud with end-to-end encryption.
Sound Recognition uses on-device AI to alert wearers to sirens, alarms, doorbells, crying babies and other sounds, even without their iPhone nearby. Apple highlighted its usefulness for people who are deaf or hard of hearing, alongside instant song identification with Shazam.
A new Siri Modular face includes the Smart Stack’s dynamic top widget and access to Siri, past conversations and recaps. Live Rewind and Siri Recap require Siri AI and launch in beta later this year, initially in English, with more languages following.
Both watches also gain larger ECG electrodes, ring-arranged photodiodes and larger, more efficient green LEDs. Background heart rate readings occur every five seconds, 60 times more frequently, while HRV is sampled as often as every five minutes, a 24-fold increase. Apple claims wearable-leading heart rate accuracy based on testing hundreds of participants against other wearables using an ECG chest strap during running, cycling and HIIT.
