Apple has officially entered the foldable market by revealing the iPhone Duo today. The launch marks one of the most substantial hardware revisions to the iPhone lineup since the original model introduced the full-screen format.
Built around a dual-screen design, the phone operates as a compact 5.4-inch device when closed and unfolds flat to reveal a expansive 7.6-inch inner canvas. Apple focused heavy attention on structural rigidity, using high-grade metals and engineered hinge components to tackle the long-term wear concerns that usually affect foldable hardware.

Dual Displays Built for Continuity
When folded shut, the iPhone Duo offers a 5.4-inch outer Super Retina XDR screen. The outer display is designed for quick, single-handed use, providing about 90 per cent of the total screen area found on a standard iPhone 18 Pro.
Unfolding the phone expands the workspace to a 7.6-inch inner display, which is roughly 50 per cent larger than an iPhone 18 Pro Max. Both displays run on identical aspect ratios, meaning apps and media scale proportionally without awkward black bars or stretched interfaces when opening or closing the device.

Titanium Frame and Friction Gliding Hinge
To keep the chassis slim while maintaining structural integrity, Apple built the outer shell using polished grade 5 titanium. Unfolded, the device stands as the thinnest iPhone ever produced.
The internal hinge mechanism uses over 100 precision components, including carbon fiber support plates, to hold the display flat during open use. Apple developed a multi-layer lamination system inside the folding glass. Custom internal adhesives allow the screen layers to slide past one another like pages in a book, relieving bending stress over time and preventing distortion along the fold.
Instead of Face ID, biometric security relies on a Touch ID sensor integrated directly into the side power button. The chassis also features IP68 water and dust resistance, alongside Ceramic Shield glass coverage on the outer panels.
Custom Cooling and Processing Power
Under the hood, the iPhone Duo runs on Apple’s top-tier A20 Pro processor. Foldable designs present unique heat management challenges because internal space is split across two halves. Apple addressed this by embedding a custom vapor chamber cooling system alongside a split dual-battery layout.
This thermal layout distributes heat evenly across the titanium frame, allowing the A20 Pro chip to maintain peak performance during heavy multitasking or intensive gaming sessions without severe thermal throttling.
Camera Systems and Software Adaptations
The phone features an upgraded camera setup centered around a 48-megapixel Fusion Main sensor and a 48-megapixel Ultra Wide lens. The main camera provides an optical-quality 2x telephoto crop option, zero shutter lag, and updated computational photography profiles.
Because the body folds, users can prop the phone on a flat surface like a tripod to take hands-free group photos, or use the cover screen as a live preview monitor while capturing high-resolution selfies with the main 48MP sensors.
The device runs on iOS 27, featuring optimized multitasking tools that let users run two full-sized apps side-by-side on the inner display.
The iPhone Duo comes in two color options: Star White and Night Sky, and starts at $2,999 CAD in Canada. Pre-orders begin on Friday, October 16, with store availability and customer deliveries starting on Friday, October 23.
