iPhone 18 Pro Preorders Open September 12, Launch Set for September 18
Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max introduce a 48-megapixel Fusion main camera with variable aperture, a smaller Dynamic Island and A20 Pro. Apple says the camera system filmed the keynote itself, using features including variable aperture.
Six thin polymer-composite blades automatically adjust light intake and depth of field, supported by a new rotor, custom lens and camera software. Apple claims around 50% more light in dark scenes, faster Night mode captures and sharper group shots; its astrophotography example used f/1.8.
The 2nm A20 Pro has a six-core CPU, seven-core GPU and two Neural Engines totalling 32 cores. Apple claims up to 20% faster super cores, 40% faster graphics, twice the Neural Engine compute and 50% more memory bandwidth. Redesigned packaging connects silicon directly to a vapour chamber, while Apple claims its longest iPhone battery life.
Monster Hunter Outlanders arrives later this year with iOS-exclusive graphics, up to 120fps, MetalFX upscaling and spatial audio.
Dynamic Island now displays three Live Activities simultaneously, such as Flighty flight status, Maps directions and a timer. Alongside Apple Intelligence and Siri AI, iOS 27 adds customizable Liquid Glass, improved Mail search, parental controls for content, contacts and access times, and AirDrop transfers Apple says are up to 80% faster.
Smarter cellular/Wi-Fi switching joins iPhone Handoff, which activates one number on whichever of two iPhones you pick up. It launches with T-Mobile and Telekom Germany; Verizon and EE follow by year-end, with more carriers later. No mention of Rogers, Telus or Bell.
Announced starting prices are $1,199 US for Pro and $1,299 US for Pro Max, with a new 2TB Pro option. Preorders open September 12; availability begins September 18. Canadian pricing is coming and we’ll update you right after the keynote, so stay tuned.
Accessories include an updated clear case, new TechWoven and silicone colours, matching crossbody straps and a wrist strap compatible with iPhone cases and AirPods Pro. U.S. offerings include Apple Upgrade’s 12- or 24-month leases with end-of-lease upgrades, up to $1,200 US off with an iPhone 14-or-newer trade-in, and AppleCare One Family with iPhone sign-up.
