Apple Skips iOS 27.1, Releases iOS 27.2 Beta 1 With New Health App

Apple has released the first beta of iOS 27.2 to developers, skipping over iOS 27.1 entirely. iOS 27.2 beta 1 carries build number 24B5084k and is already showing a few visible changes, according to Aaron (@aaronp613) on X.

One of the first changes is a slightly redesigned Health app icon, which comes alongside the all-new Health app powered by Apple Intelligence.

The beta also adds official text descriptions for Apple’s latest wallpapers. The iPhone 18 Pro burgundy wallpaper is described as: “Sinuous, luminous arcs sweep across a deep burgundy titanium surface, their shifting edge highlights converging into the vertical letterforms P-R-O, with apertures evoking camera irises”

Apple’s iPhone Duo wallpaper is described as: “Wind-rippled sand dunes sweep below a range of deeply eroded mountains, their silhouettes dark against a mauve horizon glow and a deep blue, star-scattered sky”

The update is also a very large download. On an iPhone 17 Pro Max, iOS 27.2 beta 1 is coming in at just over 24.5 GB, so developers may want to make sure they have enough free storage before installing.

Apple also released iPadOS 27.2 beta 1 with build number 24B5084k, macOS 27.2 beta 1 with build 26B5086k, tvOS 27.2 beta 1 with build 24K5088l and HomePod Software 27.2 beta 1.

Apple appears to have skipped the 27.1 cycle because that software could have revealed specific details about the upcoming iPhone Duo. The company instead moved directly to 27.2, with the same version jump across its other platforms for consistency.

If that holds, Apple looks set to move on from version 27.1 entirely and continue with the 27.2 cycle heading into October. Developers can download the new betas now through Software Update on supported devices.
