Apple Raises iCloud+ Custom Email Domain Limit to 10

iCloud

Apple has quietly increased the number of custom email domains that iCloud+ subscribers can use from three to 10, giving people and families more flexibility when using their own domain names with iCloud Mail.

The change was spotted in Apple’s support documentation by the X account pdfu, according to MacRumors. With Apple’s Custom Email Domain feature, iCloud+ subscribers who already own a domain can use it for their iCloud Mail addresses instead of relying on an @icloud.com address. For example, someone who owns yourdomain.com could use an address such as an******@********in.com while Apple handles the underlying email service.

Apple also lets subscribers purchase a new domain while setting up the feature. Domains can be configured through iCloud settings, with mail sent and received through Apple’s Mail apps or iCloud.com.

The higher custom domain limit follows another iCloud Mail change reported yesterday. Apple tripled the number of email aliases users can create from three to nine, making this the second email-related limit the company has increased this week. Email has been a busy front for Apple this year: the company announced in June that Sign in with Apple and Hide My Email would share a new private.icloud.com domain, then walked back the Hide My Email half of that plan in August after user backlash.

Custom domains are particularly useful for people who own a personal or family domain but do not want to operate a separate email service. They can keep addresses tied to their own domain while using iCloud Mail to send, receive and store messages.

The feature is also available in Canada as part of iCloud+. Apple’s Canadian plans start at $1.29 CAD per month for 50GB of storage, and every paid iCloud+ tier includes Custom Email Domain.

Canadian subscribers can add domains they already own or purchase a new one during setup, with custom addresses working through iCloud Mail across supported Apple devices and the web.

This is news? Such a deal!

Not, say – because of the increasingly larger storage and the needs of baked-in apps to have room to sync and backup – to increase the size of basic iCloud+ without an increase in price; or the addition of Apple TV for free, as recently announced for other countries’ iCloud+ users.
