Apple’s HomeView Details Just Leaked: Here’s How It Controls the Home

Apple’s upcoming HomeView hub is built around Siri and your smart home gear, not apps.
That’s according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who reported in today’s Power On newsletter that HomeView won’t have an App Store. Instead, it will run a small set of Apple apps, with Siri and connected accessories front and centre.
Apple wants you to glance at the screen and mostly talk to it. You can still tap around, but Gurman says Apple steered clear of calling it “HomePad” because it didn’t want people expecting an iPad.
HomeView is one piece of a bigger push. Gurman says Apple has spent a decade losing the smart home, and its plan to catch up includes a new Apple TV, a new HomePod mini and accessories built by LG. He also sees it as a way to keep people tied to the iPhone.
Apple is expected to show it all off at its Tuesday, October 13 event. The Apple TV and HomePod mini should ship October 30, with preorders this week, while HomeView isn’t expected until around mid-November.
HomeView runs on a standard A18 chip. The Apple TV gets bumped from an A15 to an A19, and the HomePod mini goes from an S5 to an S10.
The countertop model with a speaker base will reportedly come in space gray, silver, starlight and pink, while the wall-mounted version comes in space gray and silver.
No word on Canadian pricing yet, so don’t clear a spot on the kitchen counter just yet.
Would you put one on your wall?
