You Can Now Buy Xbox Cloud Gaming Without Game Pass

Starting today, Xbox Insiders who do not have an active Game Pass subscription can test a brand new way to stream games by purchasing dedicated “Cloud Playtime” packs. This preview gives non-subscribers an early look at the service before a broader public rollout arrives in November.

For years, accessing Xbox Cloud Gaming required an active, ongoing subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. While that subscription perk remains a core offering for hardcore fans, this new initiative opens the door for players who only want to stream specific titles, without committing to a monthly recurring fee.

During the current preview phase, Microsoft is introducing introductory Cloud Playtime launch pricing across three distinct hourly tiers:

  • 10 hours of Cloud Playtime for $3.99
  • 25 hours of Cloud Playtime for $7.99
  • 50 hours of Cloud Playtime for $11.99

These Playtime packs provide a streamlined, ad free cloud gaming experience. They include shorter queue wait times during peak hours, high quality video streams, and flexible usage terms where any unused hours remain safely stored in your account until you actually spend them.

Alongside the paid hourly packs, Microsoft is also testing an alternative option for budget conscious players. Xbox Insiders can try cloud gaming for free by opting into an ad supported tier. This gives users another pathway to experience cloud streaming without paying upfront costs, though it introduces brief advertisements into the session loop.

To participate in the current preview, users need to be enrolled in the Xbox Insider program. Testers can download the Xbox Insider Hub application on an Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, or a Windows PC. Once registered, participants can purchase playtime packs and stream supported games directly to their screens.

Players can stream across a variety of supported devices, including Windows PCs, smartphones, tablets, and select smart TVs, making it easier than ever to pick up a game away from the living room console.
