Google Calendar Wants to Move Your B.C. Events an Hour Earlier

Google Calendar users in B.C. are starting to see a new banner warning that some events may need to move one hour earlier starting November 1, 2026. It’s the first big calendar headache tied to the province’s decision to stay on daylight saving time for good (and the new time zone called PCT, its version of Pacific Time).
The banner says that “because of a change in how time zones are tracked,” you might need to shift some events, and these are marked on your calendar. Its Learn more link points to a Google support page with the fix.

Former Premier David Eby announced on March 2 that the March 8 spring forward would be B.C.’s last clock change, so clocks won’t fall back this Sunday. The province now stays on Pacific time, or UTC-7, all year.
Google says the problem goes beyond B.C., as events created in Alberta, Manitoba and Northwest Territories time zones are also affected, and some “may appear one hour late” on and after November 1.
In the example Google shows, a “Weekly project update” event carries a “Time zone changes might affect this event” notice, with buttons to move it one hour earlier or keep the current time.
Google says it will automatically shift most affected events back to their original local times in October, though guests will need to RSVP again. It can’t catch everything, and the one-click fix only appears in Calendar on the web, not the Android or iPhone apps.
For recurring meetings, organizers should open the first instance after November 1, pick Move one hour earlier, then “This and following events.” Guests can’t make the fix and should contact whoever sent the invite.
Cross-border schedules get trickier too. Washington and California still fall back on November 1, so Vancouver will sit an hour ahead of Seattle until the U.S. springs forward on March 14, 2027. B.C. will match Yukon, on permanent time since 2020.
Microsoft Outlook users aren’t off the hook. According to UBC IT, Microsoft added a “Pacific Time (British Columbia)” zone to Windows in October, but organizers still need to update existing meetings. Google says Outlook invites that look wrong should be resent, not forwarded.
Apple pushed a time zone update to iPhones back in May with B.C.’s new rules, after some users saw their devices switching to Edmonton time.
