TikTok Testing Dislike Button for Comments

TikTok has confirmed that it is testing a new dislike button for comments. This feature is being looked at as the company identifies new ways to make the platform safer and more positive.

In a blog post focusing on TikTok’s commitment to seeking out new ways to foster kindness, the company announced its initial steps in rolling out a dislike button for comments. As TikTok begins to test the feature, select users will be able to dislike individual comments found in a TikTok’s comment section.

“This community feedback will add to the range of factors we already use to help keep the comment section consistently relevant and a place for genuine engagement,” TikTok states in the post.

Disliking content on TikTok isn’t necessarily new. Users can already dislike videos to let TikTok know they aren’t interested in the content. However, the dislike button for comments simply provides that feedback that may be “irrelevant or inappropriate” without other users being able to see it. TikTok will continue to remove comments that break community guidelines.

The blog post continues on and announces that TikTok is testing another feature regarding reminders about features. These will be more centred toward creators. For instance, TikTok may remind creators about comment filtering or bulk block and delete for those who receive a high number of negative comments. However, TikTok has not conclusively confirmed whether this feature will roll out in full. A decision will apparently be made in the coming weeks.

Finally, TikTok confirms that it removed over 85 million videos between October and December 2021 for policy violations. This was confirmed via the company’s transparency report.
