Duet Display is an app that turns your iOS device into an extra display for your Mac via the Lightning USB cable. Created by former Apple engineers, the app actually works well without any major lag in our brief tests (using the Retina resolution setting) using our iPad Air, but it did make our MacBook Air’s fan run pretty hard.
Aside from that, the app works as promised and if you do need an extra display, this looks to be the best lag-free solution out there. You’ll be able to drag the arrangement of your iOS display via the Displays settings on your Mac, under ‘Arrangement’, just like you would any external display.
Right now, Duet Display is on sale for $8.99 in the Canadian App Store, a price drop from its regular price of $15.99. If you missed its introductory pricing, now’s your chance to nab it again (it’s $7.99 in the US App Store, making it truly 50% off).
Duet Display works on the following:
- All iPhones with iOS 5.1.1 and later
- All iPads with iOS 5.1.1 and later
- All Macs with 10.9 (Mavericks) and later
