Apple Says It Never Shared iPhone / iPad UDIDs With FBI, Confirms Ban On Its Usage In iOS 6

In response to the AntiSec group’s claim that they hacked over 12 million UDIDs along with personal information from the FBI earlier this year, Apple has issued an official statement that it never shared iPhone or iPad UDIDs with FBI and will in fact ban the use of UDID in iOS 6, reports AllThingsD.

Apple spokesperson Natalie Kerris told AllThingsD that the Cupertino company is going to introduce a new set of APIs that will both replace and ban UDIDs.

“The FBI has not requested this information from Apple, nor have we provided it to the FBI or any organization. Additionally, with iOS 6 we introduced a new set of APIs meant to replace the use of the UDID and will soon be banning the use of UDID”.

Yesterday, AntiSec claimed that it breached FBI’s computer and stole a database which contained over 12 million UDIDs for iPhones and iPads around the world. However, FBI responded by saying “At this time there is no evidence indicating that an FBI laptop was compromised or that the FBI either sought or obtained this data.”
