Apple Postponing its Employees Return to Office Until at Least October as Global COVID-19 Cases Rise
Apple has effectively delayed its plans to bring its employees back to the office. Originally, the company instituted plans to have staff back on-site come September. However, as global COVID-19 cases begin to rise once more, Apple is postponing those plans until October at the very least, according to Bloomberg.
Most Apple employees have been working for the company in a remote capacity since the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic. The lifestyle that has come with working remotely has set in for many. However, Apple CEO Tim Cook and other heads alerted staff that a hybrid work model would be implemented come September. Though, it appears as though that timeline has been pushed back a month.
It does appear as though October is only an estimated timeframe. Apple will continue to monitor the situation and update its staff. Per the report:
Apple will give its employees at least a month’s warning before mandating a return to offices, the people said, asking not to be identified discussing internal policy.
Upon the rollout of the hybrid work model, most employees will be forced to return to the office three days a week. Many employees have been vocal in wishing to remain in a permanent remote position and have sent Apple heads a memo expressing their concerns. As the remote lifestyle allows for better accessibility, mental health advantages, and a work-life balance, Apple has insisted on moving forward with its new workplace model.
